Beats is an immersive light experience that shapes time by the rhythm of your heartbeat. Visitors are surrounded by a full-room projection that responds to their real-time heartbeats. It invites them to explore how we perceive and experience the passage of time, where each person's rhythm offers a different sense of time passage. Each beat becomes a moment preserved, forming a timeline that is entirely your own. This serves as a reminder that time is not just something we observe but something we live and experience.

Light Experimentation
low-fidelity prototypes using a scaled model to explore projection and light movement in space
Initial Research and Storyboarding
mapping out early concepts through sketches
01. Time is perceived through awareness
We perceive time as we become aware of it. Mindfulness brings focus to the present, making the passage of time more tangible.
02. Measurement of time
Anything that moves in a constant pattern can serve as a carrier of time.
Interactive Systems Exploration
Exploring TouchDesigner and integrating sensor inputs to create data-driven visuals
TouchDesigner Experimentation
I began exploring a multi-user experience where a sound reactive pattern follows visitors as they move through the space.
Integrating Arduino with TouchDesigner
I experimented with linking Arduino input data to TouchDesigner to control a dynamic pulsing floor pattern before transitioning to a wireless setup.
Beats visualizations
These particle spheres, generated in TouchDesigner, visually represent time through BPM data. A higher BPM produces larger spheres, symbolizing more time captured, while a lower BPM results in smaller spheres, indicating less time.
Experience Branding
Developing visual identities to create a more cohesive user experience
Experience Summary
Visitors receive a physical printout displaying their average BPM, recorded BPM data, date of experience, and total beats passed. The two-layer design reinforces the concept, with background particles representing time and cut-out holes framing its passage.
